FEDERAL INVESTMENT TAX CREDIT
The ITC is a reduction in the overall tax liability for homes or businesses investing in solar power generation technology, by the federal government, and through 2016, like this:
- For both homes and businesses a 30% Federal tax credit; no cap!
- Allows businesses an accelerated depreciation schedule over 6 years.
STATE PROGRAMS
States around the country are jumping onto the green wagon to meet the CO2 emission standards and its numerous benefits through significant Incentive Programs:
As provided in the FLORIDA STATE Solar Energy System Incentives Program:
As part of the 2006 Florida Energy Act, the Solar Energy Systems Incentives Program is providing rebates for purchase and installation of solar energy systems in homes and businesses.
Any resident of Florida who purchases and installs a new solar energy system from July 1, 2006, through June 30, 2010, is eligible for a rebate on a portion of the purchase price of that solar energy system, as long as the system is 2 kilowatts or larger.
Solar Photovoltaic System Incentive Qualifications
A solar photovoltaic system qualifies for a rebate if:
- The system is installed by a state-licensed master electrician, electrical contractor, or solar contractor.
- The system complies with state interconnection standards as provided by the commission.
- The system complies with all applicable building codes as defined by the local jurisdictional authority.
Rebate Amounts for Solar Photovoltaic System
The rebate amount shall be set at $4 per watt based on the total wattage rating of the system. The maximum allowable rebate per solar photovoltaic system installation shall be as follows:
- Twenty thousand dollars for a residence.
- One hundred thousand dollars for a place of business, a publicly owned or operated facility, or a facility owned or operated by a private, not-for-profit organization, including condominiums or apartment buildings.
